“My message to the small minority who don’t pay what they owe is simple. I agree with the chancellor. We will find you and your money and you will pay your fair share.” Says Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Speaker at the Lib Dem conference, held in Birmingham. He states that this would ensure 350,000 top earners paid their “fair share” of tax.
Tax is a fashionable topic, people though the centuries have been disputing and re-disputing it. We all hate it, but we all understand it is necessary… Don’t we?
Honestly in my opinion it is nothing less than a kick to the crotch when I look at my pay slip and see how much of my money that I have worked hard for has disappeared into the depths of our governments pockets, It’s made all the more painful when the little money I have left gets spent on bills like council tax (I mean honestly! I thought I’d just paid a bundle in tax… Why do I now need to give you more?)
But at the end of the day we have health care, we have police on the streets and we have firemen to put out our burning houses yes? We have a new government that is trying to fix our economical situation and they are the people that keep this country going.
But how do they not see that the higher they raise our tax the more pissed off we, the working class under dogs are going to get?
As I looked into what was said at the Lib Dem Conference in Birmingham, It came to light that it is actually the high rollers that have been stung. Gordon Brown has introduced the 50% tax rate for high earners. This means if the hard earned money you bring to the table totals at more than £150,000 PA you will have half… That’s right HALF of this taken in tax. This has taken the political world by storm with strong opinionated politicians fighting for both sides. Tony Blair is said to believe that moving the tax rate from 40% to 50% is a ‘terrible mistake’. Others have suggested that this rise will force business men to ‘put more of their funds into pension plans’ or even go as far as to move abroad in an effort to avoid losing more money. It is also said that ‘that the new rate will stifle foreign investment and hinder entrepreneurs.’
Those fighting to keep the tax rate are arguing that in order to fix our economic predicament high tax is a necessity, since the bar has been raised to 50% we are facing bringing in an extra £3.2 Billion every year. It has been said that without this we will suffer in the long run.
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg insisted that if the 50p rate were scrapped, it would be replaced with “other ways” of ensuring the richest “pay their fair share” though he agrees it is right to have a review of its effectiveness.
Gordon Brown himself told the BBC “I don’t think it is morally or even economically right to unilaterally lower the tax burden on the very, very wealthiest when we have not made as much progress as we wanted to on lowering tax on millions of people on ordinary incomes. The 50p rate stays unless we can make much more progress on the wider lowering of tax.”
Mr Alexander has played his part telling delegates “we need to make sure tax owed is tax paid”, Saying that ‘a crackdown on tax evasion and avoidance announced a year ago was “bearing fruit”, with £2 billion set to be raised this year towards a target of £7 billion by 2015.’ In fact, Labour have already set up a special unit within the Inland Revenue to focus on the tax arrangements of the wealthiest 5,000 people in the UK.
So ask yourself, Do we really need to steal from the rich to help the poor? Did Robin Hood have the right idea? Tax is needed to run our country, or so they say. We need more money to be poured into our country to be able to pull ourselves out of this rut we’ve found ourselves in but is it morally right to take 50% of our country’s wealthiest Ladies and Gents hard earned cash? Or should it be equal no matter how much you earn.

Ok Riot Non-Rant.
I am now, watching the news - Watching the riots.
I don’t give a flying f**k who’s fault it is; It may be the kids, it may be the parents. It may be the fault of the government, and the expense of living these days.
The point is WHY??
Frankly I am so sick of hearing about the sh*t we are causing ourselves.
I am so angry with our race for being capable of waring against ITSELF that this rant is NOT going to continue.
Instead I am going to talk about the GOOD of people.
Though some terrible things have happened, Alot of good has come from it.
Watching the news I have also seen people coming from their homes, armed with brooms and bin bags to help rebuild our streets. To work together to clean the damage that has been done. They are sweeping the town back together, they are helping shop owners rebuild their buildings.
We are selfish people these days - How many of you have walked past rubbish on the street?
Ignored broken glass from a phone box that’s been smashed?
Moved quickly onwards as kids spray paint a wall or kick in a door?
How many of you have thought “Well someone else will deal with it.”
Today some of our own race made me sick with what they’ve done.
But today, my faith was restored in selfless humanity. People helping to fix what has been done.
People heading out to help prevent the inevitable destruction, putting their health, even their lives on the line to help us all avoid this violence. You might not think much of this but put yourself in that position -
If you walk past a shop being broken, someone being hurt - Would you try to help them?
If you were the person being hurt and someone did try to help - they would be your hero no?These people need to be congratulated.
Their strength, their selflessness, their truly good humanity is something to put your faith in.
And I suggest that all of us, myself included should learn from them. -
